BROKEN CHINA JEWELS

(San Francesco d'Assisi)

My last works - Broken China jewels

BROKEN CHINA JEWEL

FAKE SHABBY CHIC FIREPLACE

While waiting for the real one, I built myself a fake fireplace
Reclaimed wood, wooden decorations, vinyl foam wallpaper with fake bricks, polystyrene frieze, some “hardware” (screws, bolts, connecting plates) to join the various pieces together and form the frame, white matt water-based enamel diluted with Bologna chalk and a few drops of walnut stain for a more milky color, a final coat of neutral wax, and a fireproofing agent taken directly from a dumpster on the street.  A scratch here and there to make it look worn... shabby, just the way I like it.
Now I'm just waiting for my cats to go and sharpen their claws on the faux brick panel... if they try, I'll strangle them.

Tiny hearts - Broken China jewels

I felt like naming these little hearts.
The first name that came to mind was “Minù”, because they are tiny, just like my cat Minù, who remained small after being spayed, even though they say that this procedure, even if performed very early, does not affect growth. However, she went into heat twice in 20 days at only four and a half months old, long before my other cat, Celestino, realised he was a boy, which happened a few months later (as usual, these “men” are late in everything).
The hearts measure only 1.02 cm in width with a gold-plated steel chain and 18k gold-plated brass frame, naturally made from shards of vintage English and German porcelain saucers.

Broken China Christmas Wreath

    Not long now, doesn't it
Non manca molto, eh?

Dove of peace broken China

Great ideas arrive in the world with the sweetness of doves. Perhaps, if we listen well, we will hear, amidst the din of empires and nations, a faint rustle of wings, the sweet quiver of life and hope.

(Albert Camus)

(Albert Camus)

Broken China and Crochet combination for coin wallets

I thought and rethought about which accessory I could combine with my broken china, but above all which technique to use that I liked enough not to get tired after a day. So I dug out my crochet hooks from the crochet hook case and made these pretty coin purses, each combined with a heart-shaped crochet hook in the same colours as some boho-style Indian decorative borders I had bought a few months ago to do something else entirely. I learned to crochet before I even learned to write, but don't tell me to follow the patterns, I keep losing count of the stitches. That's why it took me a while, only after the last 2 purls had I memorised the number of rounds and increases without looking at the pattern

Broken China golden medallions - medaglioni broken China dorati

The mornings are milder And darker become the nuts And the berries have a rounder face. The rose is no longer in the city. The maple wears a gayer scarf The countryside a scarlet skirt, And I too, not to be old-fashioned, Will wear a jewel. (Emily Dickinson)

This year I wanted to try agai to decore styrofoam balls using the most precious fabrics I could find in the trunk, silk, lace, damask, satin, velvet, organza. These are balls for all seasons, not necessarily Christmas, simply a fine home ornament to hang wherever possible. Mine hangs on one end of the curtain rod in the living room.

How great is the world in the light of lamps, and how small in the eyes of remembrance.
