FAKE SHABBY CHIC FIREPLACE

While waiting for the real one, I built myself a fake fireplace
Reclaimed wood, wooden decorations, vinyl foam wallpaper with fake bricks, polystyrene frieze, some “hardware” (screws, bolts, connecting plates) to join the various pieces together and form the frame, white matt water-based enamel diluted with Bologna chalk and a few drops of walnut stain for a more milky color, a final coat of neutral wax, and a fireproofing agent taken directly from a dumpster on the street.  A scratch here and there to make it look worn... shabby, just the way I like it.
Now I'm just waiting for my cats to go and sharpen their claws on the faux brick panel... if they try, I'll strangle them.

 

In attesa di quello vero, mi sono costruita un finto caminetto.

Legno di recupero, decoro in legno, carta da parati in vinilico espanso con finti mattoncini, fregio in polistirolo, qualche "ferramentaglia" (viti, bulloni, lastrine di giunzione) per unire i vari pezzi tra loro e formare la cornice, smalto opaco all'acqua bianco diluito con gesso di bologna e qualche goccia di mordente noce per un colore più latteo, passatina di cera neutra finale, parafuoco prelevato direttamente da un cassonetto in strada. Una grattatina qua e la per renderlo vissuto... shabby, come piace a me.

Ora aspetto solo che i miei mici vadano a farsi le unghie sul pannello di finti mattoncini... se ci provano li strozzo

 

 

 

Tiny hearts - Broken China jewels

 

 I felt like naming these little hearts.
The first name that came to mind was “Minù”, because they are tiny, just like my cat Minù, who remained small after being spayed, even though they say that this procedure, even if performed very early, does not affect growth. However, she went into heat twice in 20 days at only four and a half months old, long before my other cat, Celestino, realised he was a boy, which happened a few months later (as usual, these “men” are late in everything).
The hearts measure only 1.02 cm in width with a gold-plated steel chain and 18k gold-plated brass frame, naturally made from shards of vintage English and German porcelain saucers.

 

Questi cuoricini mi è venuta voglia di battezzarli.

Il primo nome che mi è venuto in mente è stato i "Minù", perchè sono minuscoli, proprio come la mia micia Minù che è rimasta piccolina dopo la sterilizzazione, nonostante si dica che questo intervento, anche se effettuato molto presto, non incide sulla crescita. Lei comuque è andata in calore 2 volte in 20 giorni a soli 4 mesi e mezzo, molto prima che l'altro mio micio, Celestino, realizzasse di essere un maschietto, cosa avvenuta qualche mese dopo (come al solito questi "uomini" sono ritardati in tutto).

I cuoricini misurano solo 1,02 cm di larghezza con catenella in acciaio dorato e cornice in ottone placcato oro 18k, naturalmente realizzati con cocci di piattini di porcellana vintage inglese e tedesca.
