Happy Spring Equinox

Happy Spring Equinox! Today night and day are of equal length (equus nox), then the amount of hours of light will always be greater, up to the longest day of the year, which corresponds to 23 June 2013, near the summer solstice. In the past, the date of the beginning of spring was set at March 21 (Decision of the Council of Nicea in 325 AD), but today is taken into account astronomical equinox, which falls on a date between 19 and 21 March.

Buon Equinozio di Primavera!! Oggi notte e dì hanno la stessa durata (equus nox), poi la quantità di ore di luce sarà sempre maggiore, fino ad arrivare al giorno più lungo dell'anno, che per il 2013 corrisponderà al 23 Giugno, vicino al solstizio d'estate. In passato, la data di inizio della primavera era fissata al 21 marzo (decisione del Concilio di Nicea del 325 d.C.), oggi invece si tiene conto dell’equinozio astronomico, che cade in una data compresa tra il 19 e il 21 marzo.

Morning trip to the small historical village of Capena at 25 km from Rome

This morning we went to Capena a small town very close to home and about 25 km from Rome city center.
There every Sunday morning a flea and handcraft market is held and we went to look around thinking that we could participate sometimes.
The market has been a bit disappointing, perhaps because of the bad weather there were not many visitors and stands, but .... what a big surprise being in the small historical village of Capena and walk along the picturesque streets and little courtyards of this small town where since the time of the Roman Empire, the people of Falisci lived (and ancient people living in the center of Italy and so name by the Romans).
Here live simple people, animal lovers and crafts in particular of ceramics as evidenced by the beautiful benches placed along the driveway behind the building Abbey of the Benedictine Monks of St. Paul.

Stamattina siamo andati a Capena un piccolo comune molto vicino casa ed a circa 25 km da Roma.
Li ogni domenica mattina si tiene un mercatino dell'usato ed artigianato e siamo andati a curiosare pensando che avremmo potuto partecipare qualche volta.
Il mercatino è stato un pò deludente, forse per via del cattivo tempo non c'erano tanti banchi ne visitatori, ma che sopresa ritrovarsi nell'antico borgo di Capena e passeggiare nei piccoli e pittoreschi vicoli e cortili di questo piccolo centro dove abitò fin dai tempi dell'Impero Romano, il popolo dei Falisci, un antico popolo che viveva in Italia centrale e così chiamato dai Romani.
Qui vive gente semplice, amante degli animali e dell'artigianato in particolare della lavorazione della ceramica come testimoniano da bellissime panchine collocate lungo il vialetto alle spalle del palazzo Abbaziale dei Monaci Benedettini di San Paolo.
